Blood Orange Jam



This delectable jam is a sure tastebud pleaser. Blood oranges are currently in season so the flavor is quite exquisite. This recipe is quick and easy and follows three major ingredients with a few optional ones!


Ingredients

5-6 Blood Oranges

1 1/2 tbsp Honey

1/4 cup Chia Seeds

1 cup Water

1 tsp Vanilla (optional)

Cinnamon (optional)



Directions

  • Wash and cut each orange into two and then cut each half into two.

  • Use a knife to cut out the pits of the orange.

  • Remove the seeds as best as you can.

  • Add the pits to a pot with 1 1/2 tbsp of honey.



  • Pour in a cup of water and bring to a boil.

  • Once the mixture starts bubbling turn down the heat and let it simmer. Add some orange zest by gratin the orange skin directly into the pot (~1tsp).

  • Add in cinnamon and 1tsp of vanilla and stir for 1-2 minutes.

  • Transfer the mixture to a blender and blend until smooth.

  • Strain the mixture and save the pulp (freeze the pulp for later use).


  • Let the liquid cool for a few minutes.

  • Add 1/4 cup of chia seeds to a jar and pour in the cooled liquid. (Makes 2 jars).



  • Mix to thoroughly distribute the chia seeds into the jam.

  • Store in the fridge over nigh to set.

  • Enjoy on toast with nut butter of choice or add to your favorite yogurt parfait.
