Hey guys! Today we are going to touch on another aspect of health in the bigger picture of holistic health. Just to jog your memory, The World Health Organization defines health as "a state of complete physical, mental and social wellbeing and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity." This means, in order to achieve overall well being, every area should be catered to. Today, we are going to talk about one of the most powerful parts of the human being. The mind! It is in our minds that we make decisions, assumptions, draw conclusions, process emotions, determine our actions etc. We’ve all heard the saying mind over matter plenty times. This means that we can use our mind or will to get through any situation. The placebo effect is a great example of this. A person can take a pill that is mean't to be a placebo (without their knowledge) of another pill that is designed to alleviate an illness and begin to feel better. In this instance, the person is not actually feeling the effects of the pill, but instead, is unconsciously using their mind to get over the issue. Majority of the time we forget this when we are going through hard times. We forget that we have the power to overcome any obstacle and so instead, we sulk and we become pessimistic. Its true that conditioning our minds to do the opposite takes great strength. Could it be that we would rather take the easy way out by being consumed by our circumstances instead of fighting our way through?
Getting over this is going to take a lot of fight and getting out of our comfort zones. When it comes to making the decision to commit to something, our mind plays a very important role. Let's say we decide to change the way we eat, or we decide to make the goal to start working out, start a business or anything else. We are going to need a certain level of mental prowess to execute this plan and commit to fulfilling it to the end. Thoughts will come up that say "maybe I can't do this", or "I've been working out for three weeks now, I'm not seeing any progress, so I quit", or " eating healthy is hard, I can't do it." When these thoughts arise, it is up to us to cast them down. When we do this we fight for ourselves. Our bodies will only do what our mind tells it to do. So if you are constantly saying "I can't" then your body will do just that. Knowing the reason why we are doing something is important for those days when we are low on motivation. Knowing your "why" will get you farther than motivation ever could. Tying your goals to a purpose will help you to stay committed. You are less likely to stay the course if you don't know why you are doing something.
Understand that you are stronger than you think. You have the power to choose the thoughts that you let stick and the ones that you defy. Your mind is a tool for you to use to accomplish any task. It is not your master. So when those negative thoughts come to tell you that you are not smart enough, or that you'll never be fit, or that you are less than you think you are.. Remember you have the authority to say "no, that is a lie." You have the power to move beyond those thoughts and accomplish your goals.
You are enough,
You are strong,
You are worthy,
You can and you will,
You have the power to conquer the enemy within!
Blessings.
