Hey friends! It's been very HOT in New York. I can't say I'm upset about it. I love the sun, but the heat can be very taxing on our systems. We need to ensure that we are adequately hydrated each day. There are various avenues through which we get hydration. We get hydration through fruits and vegetables, soups, tea, beverages, and of course, the tried and true, water! Hydration is important in maintaining many metabolic processes that are important for sustaining life and keeping our cells happy! Hydration is also important during physical activity as we lose a lot of water from exercising. Being adequately hydrated is imperative for preventing injuries during your workout and so on.
Today, I'm here to provide two yummy drink recipes to keep both your tastebuds and cells happy! I hope you try them out or even put your own spin on it. Let's dive in!
Blueberry Tamarind Sour
Ingredients:
3 tbsp Tamarind
1 cup Blueberries
A piece of Ginger
Water
2 tbsp Honey
Prep:
Blend all ingredients and enjoy outside on a hot day!
Tamarinds are a delicious tropical fruit and contain magnesium, potassium, iron, calcium, phosphorus, thiamin, riboflavin and niacin. Tamarinds are versatile and are used in sauces, chutneys, beverages and more. I found them at my local corner store and had to pick up a box. I haven't had them since I left Jamaica. The texture is very velvety and the flavor profile is a mixture of sweet and sour.
Mango Mint Smoothie
Ingredients:
1 Frozen mango
Mint
1 Frozen Cucumber
1 tbsp Lemon Juice
Water
2 tbsp Honey
Prep:
- Ensure that you cut cucumber and mango into chunks before freezing.
- Add all your ingredients to a blender, blend and enjoy!
This recipe was inspired by a drink I got from restaurant, it was so incredibly delicious I had to recreate it. Besides, mangoes are one of my favorites, so anything with mangoes will always be a treat to my tastebuds. OH! How yummy would this recipe be in popsicle form! AHHH!
Anyways gotta go. Happy Hydrating! <3
